Trip Leader: Dave Sutherland

Recently male American Goldfinches have started appearing in full breeding plumage, so spring must be close! Waneka Lake in Lafayette is a popular birding destination that we visited last year for the first time. So, we're going to try it out again with Dave Sutherland leading us. Thank you, Dave! We hope to see lots of waterfowl....ring-necked ducks, mallards, grebes, mergansers, scaups, gadwalls, teals, coots, and herons. There will probably be some surprises this time of year, too.

To get to the Waneka Lake parking lot from Boulder, get on South Boulder Rd. going east. Drive for about 7 miles until you go two blocks past Centaurus High School to the traffic light at the intersection of South Boulder Rd. and Centaur Village Drive. At that light, turn left and go 3 blocks north to the three-way stop sign at Caria Drive; turn right onto Caria and go east for 3/8 of a mile to Emma St. There you will see the parking lot to the left where we will meet. Extra binoculars will be available to borrow. All birding levels are welcome.

After birding for a couple of hours, we will go to Liquid Mechanics Brewing Co. There we have reserved a private room for our group. You pay for your own drinks and BCAS will provide us with some appetizers to enjoy. See you soon!

Where to meet: Meet at the parking lot at Emma Street and Caria Drive, on the east side of Waneka Lake (on google maps it shows a Disc Golf Course at the parking lot location). Liquid Mechanics Brewing Co. is nearby at 297 US 287 #100 (map).
