BCAS Education Activities
Boulder County Audubon aims to provide transformative educational experiences to people of all ages, particularly in Boulder County, that create champions for the conservation of birds and their habitats.
Teen Naturalists
Boulder County Audubon’s Teen Naturalist program offers middle and high school students the opportunity to explore many facets of the natural world and their interactions. The group participates in wildlife surveys (birds, bats, butterflies, etc.), BioBlitzes, nature photography workshops, and other outdoor activities.
Teen Bird Camp Scholarships
BCAS offers full scholarships to summer ornithology camps for Boulder County area students.
Environmental Education
Environmental education in our community is important to BCAS.
Boulder Birds & Brew Meetup
Convivial, relaxed walks are led by those familiar with the local birds and habitats and each leader brings their own perspective to the walk. Invite a friend and spend time with long-time birders and newcomers alike, while we explore some of the beautiful trails and bird habitats around Boulder. After the walks, attendees have the option to meet up at a local brewery near the walk for conversation and enjoy some suds. Boulder County Audubon provides light appetizers and attendees buy their own drinks.
Custom Programs
BCAS also works with community groups on educational programs specific to their group and participant ages and interests. This can be an educational table at a community event, to custom field trips for youth groups, to presentations at HOA meetings on native plantings, and much more.
Birds and Beyond
Geo sapiens is a creation of Boulder County naturalist, Earth Scientist and energy educator, Martin Ogle. Its purpose is to help address the big and noble challenge of creating sustainable – A.K.A. interesting, healthy, and meaningful – human life on Earth. Martin provides programs, activities, information, and outreach/consulting to integrate environmental and energy education and apply this knowledge to how we conduct our human world – our daily lives and careers. Geo sapiens means “Earth wise.” It recognizes that we humans are, scientifically and culturally, a seamless continuum of Earth’s life. Martin believes that “by understanding our human relationship to Earth in a genuine way, we can take positive action.”
