Beyond Birds
Programs and activities that bring the relevance and importance of birds to life!
BCAS is offering two new programs that connect birds to understanding the world around us. Naturalist, Earth scientist and energy educator, Martin Ogle, provides these programs for elementary school to adult audiences in just about any setting that works for your school, organization or public group.
Birds and Energy
As animals with the highest body temperatures, amazing adaptations, astounding migrations and more, birds have a lot to teach us about energy! And, human energy systems affect birds uniquely and severely. So, its time to explore birds and energy together! This program can be a hands (and feet!) on activity that features the energy bike (pictured), as a classroom (or other indoor) presentation or as a virtual/online session. It can even be experienced as a walk in an open space, school yard or neighborhood.
A typical classroom session connecting students to nature.
Birds as a Window to the World!
Birds are, perhaps, the single best way to learn about the world! They are colorful, active and fascinating living beings that are all around us. As they have for millennia, birds capture our imagination through flight. Their migrations inform us of countries and continents far and wide and the human cultures through which they fly. Their adaptations and physiology bring fascinating lessons in life sciences. And birds are, indeed, uniquely positioned to teach us about energy in living systems! Come to understand our world in fascinating new ways through the lives of birds! As with “Birds and Energy,” this program can take multiple forms ranging from an informal demonstration to more formal, indoor sessions to walks/activities in a variety of settings
Testimonial:
“Martin presented to my middle school ornithology classes (5th–8th grade) and did an outstanding job! His positive energy, extensive knowledge of birds, and ability to connect with students made the experience memorable and meaningful. He kept students engaged and excited, and helped lay a foundation for our upcoming birding field trips. Martin is kind, passionate about his work, and a fantastic guest expert—I’d welcome him back anytime!” - Marnie Steele, Curiosity Coach and Teacher/Librarian at Meadowlark PK-8
