Trip Leader: Dave Sutherland https://www.davesutherland.co/

Why fly to Belize or Costa Rica when their birds will come to us? Dave Sutherland, an award-winning naturalist and formerly with Boulder OSMP, is sure to entertain us as we bird one of Boulder's best trails for colorful spring migrants. We will actually use Birds of Costa Rica as our field guide! From Broadway in south Boulder, turn west on Table Mesa Dr, south on Lehigh St, right on Bear Mt. Dr., and the trailhead is just past Wildwood Rd. Park on the street. Map address is 1520 Bear Mountain Drive.

This is the area where the NCAR fire burned the last week of March. Dave scouted the area after the fire and found that the scrubby area near the creek was not affected, so we should see the usual avian fauna.

Bring binoculars, repellent, and water. Extra binoculars will be available. Afterwards, we will head back down the road to Southern Sun, 627 S. Broadway, where we will have appetizers provided by BCAS and drinks that you pay for.

Where and when to meet: Meet at 4:45 PM at the neighborhood access point to Bear Canyon trail – a google map search for Bear Canyon Trailhead or 1520 Bear Mountain Drive in Boulder will get you there. Free parking is available along the street.
